These days, it’s can be very easy to just stay cooped up inside your home from the time you wake up until you go to bed, and in turn, life can feel like a blur. I’ve been making it a point to get outside of my apartment for at least an hour every day and try to be present and enjoy whatever environment I’m in (park, beach, stroll around the neighborhood). A couple weeks ago, I picked up an iced latte and walked to a park next to the beach. It was such a nice morning, about 70 degrees with a slight breeze and it wasn’t even 10am yet. I stayed off my phone and just people watched and enjoyed the weather. Even if you think you’re too busy or just too lazy to change into real clothes, I think it’s still important to get yourself outside. I want to incorporate more simple, peaceful moments like this into my life. XO
My dining room is finally complete! Finding a dining table I liked took me a few months… I wanted something I really loved. I found this one on craigslist for $150, but it’s originally from CB2 and is priced at $500. I think the color of the wood is so beautiful and rich and I love the inset legs. I didn’t know I would love it so much until I brought it home and saw it in my apartment. I think it’s so perfect and I wouldn’t want anything different! I bought the matching bench full price from CB2. The bench and the table are both SUPER heavy and sturdy. The 2 dining chairs are from a brand called Safaveih. The Shearling rug on top of my bench is from CB2, which I bought 4 years ago. It makes the bench wayyy more comfortable to sit on. I really like black and white photos in my home. I bought the big ocean photo from Society6, but I don’t see it on their site anymore. The smaller photo I bought in a little gift shop in Montauk, NY (it’s a photo of the beach). My little wooden stool I use as a plant stand used to be my grandmothers ❤ and the hanging planter is from a flea market in Silverlake. I love how it fits two pots! The fruit bowl, I bought from the Rose Bowl flea market. Proud to say I talked the lady down from $20 to $15. Lastly, the candlestick holders and candlesticks I bought from Amazon! I love the yellow beeswax candle look. Although I don’t sit in my dining room very often (usually only when I have guests over) I’m glad I was able to make the room nice to look at 🙂

I know what you’re thinking.. and yes I took my skincare products outside for a photoshoot.
These are the basic skincare items I use every single day – very mild, simple products. I stick with these because they work really well for sensitive skin and keep my skin clear. I’ll do another post about the additional products I use (serums, exfoliators, masks, etc) another time. My skincare routine is a comforting ritual that I do twice a day. It’s nice to feel like you’re taking care of your skin and protecting it from the sun and environment.
Oil Cleanser – Malin + Goetz Facial Cleansing Oil $42 Pre-quarantine, I wore makeup every day, so I always double cleansed at the end of the day, starting with an oil cleanser. This one smells seriously amazing.. possibly a little like eucalyptus? And it gets all of my face & eye makeup off. Malin + Goetz makes their products geared towards sensitive skin types, so I love and trust this brand. I also love their packaging!
Foaming Cleanser – Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser $21 After getting all my makeup off with my oil cleanser, I follow up with this gentle foaming cleanser. This gets my skin super clean because it foams up when I lather it. It doesn’t make my skin feel super tight/dry afterwards and it’s affordable! Also I find that Kiehl’s often has 20% off promotions going on.
Toner – First Aid Beauty Wild Oat Hydrating Toner $22 First Aid Beauty is so so good! Their products are like healing/medicinal for my skin. This toner gives a nice soothing hydrating finish to my skin. What really is a toner? I’m honestly not entirely sure. All I know is this makes my skin feel really good 🙂
Moisturizer – Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream $32 I like this moisturizer because it feels super soft and lightweight on my skin and is also moisturizing. It doesn’t cost a fortune so I’m not afraid put it all over my neck as well.
Face SPF – Clarins Sunscreen For Face Wrinkle Control Cream (SPF 50) $35 Honestly, I don’t love this because it’s a little greasy, but it doesn’t break me out and it does its job. I’m using it up and then going to try something else. I’ve decided to always wear sunscreen on my face every day because I’m already seeing signs of aging… I thought I was safe in my 20’s but I guess not (sob).
Eye SPF – Origins Age Defense Eye Cream (SPF 20) $41 One of my favorite youtubers Emily Valentine Parr said that the only way to prevent wrinkles around the eyes is retinol and SPF. That really stuck with me and now I wear eye cream with SPF every day. This one is really good and goes on super easy. Also works perfect under makeup. I never leave the house without this on! Only downside is that it is a little pricey.
Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed ❤
I’ve accumulated a decent sized coffee table book collection over the past year. I’ve always liked the look of an abundance of coffee table books in people’s homes. I think they make your place look super cozy and they’re something for you and your guests to flip through for some entertainment. Browsing through beautiful photos of homes, destinations, food and people can be really therapeutic, and also a source of inspiration. It can shift your mood!
One of my favorites is Wish I Was Here. It has stunning photos of beach towns, resorts, sea life and incredible aerial photos of the ocean (how do they capture those??). This book gives me a sense of escape and after I read through it, I feel like I just took a vacation. Eat Drink Nap is another good one, all about what goes into the making of a soho house – decor, recipes, entertaining, etc.. It’s somewhat of a how-to/guidebook and I like how you can apply a lot of what’s in there to your own home. It’s also the closest I’ll ever get to a being in a soho house.. (boo-hoo). Another favorite is The Tiny Mess, a cookbook that features people who are thriving in small, nonconventional homes (boats, tree houses, vans) and how they are able to cook incredible meals. Also the photography in here is amazing! Super inspiring.
Thanks for reading 🙂
Some more hiking trails opened up this past weekend, so I went to Will Rodgers with my family. I haven’t been able to go on a hike since March, so being able to go again felt amazing! There aren’t many places to go nowadays, so it was nice to finally get a taste of freedom again. It makes me think how crazy it will feel to be able to do other once-normal activities again.
Pics from my hike. I love the Spring and I love little cactus-flowers!
So nice to see the world opening back up again. xo
It’s been 8 weeks since the the safer at home order started. I haven’t seen any friends but luckily I have been able to see my family lots. I feel like I’m going through different phases of quarantine life. At first, I was buying a bunch of stuff for my apartment, beauty products, etc., but now I have completely stopped spending money on anything other than food and bills. I plan to do this for the next couple months. I’ve let my life slow down and for once am just appreciating and finding happiness in what I have and I’ve realized there is something really calming/zen about that. I have been having trouble falling asleep, so I cut out coffee (sad), eliminated screen time 30 minutes before I go to sleep, and use lavender essential oil in my diffuser, and it has worked! I don’t even try to sleep until I start yawning (lol). I was binging a lot of t.v., but decided I needed to put my energy into something creative – hence the blog, eventually youtube, and getting into photography…. one thing that’s been consistent throughout all of this has been me working out almost every day. A few goals I have for going-forward:
- Spend at least 1 hour outside every day (sitting on balcony.. with spf.., going on walks/hikes, etc.)
- Drink more water and tea
- Try new recipes (I bought a couple new cook books – The Tiny Mess, Dining In)
- Complete the last bit of Marie Kondo-ing my apartment (kitchen cabinets, bedroom nightstands)
- Full body stretch every day (poses here)
I’m a little bummed I won’t be going to Greece with my family in June like we had planned. But I am on some type of weird quarantine vacation in my apartment? I think everyone will appreciate traveling a bit more once this is all over, and I’m looking forward to that feeling. In the meantime, here are some dreamy vacation inspiration pics I found.. xo
